A month or so ago, I wrote an article about consumerism that received some backlash, and some of it rightfully so. Well at this point, since I have one foot in the deep end I may as well jump all the way in! July 12th, 2016 is the 2nd episode of the wildly popular “Amazon Prime Day.” For those of you who aren’t familiar with the concept of Amazon Prime, it is a yearly $100 dollar subscription that provides their consumers with free two-day shipping on a large amount of Amazon products, provides the Amazon Prime streaming service, and several other perks that make the fee well worth the price.
Throughout the entire day, Amazon Prime will have large discounts on items, ranging from things you give to a baby to giant large screen TVs. Amazon reported that in last year’s event, the company sold 34.4 million items worldwide and also received a huge jump in Amazon Prime memberships. As a proud consumer of Amazon Prime, the sale last year was a bit on the “meh” side, with a ton of things that I would have no use for. But, clearly people enjoyed the event, technical issues aside.
If you’re not a member – here’s a link to join. Happy Priming!
Thanks to Washington Post for last year’s details.
